The complaint was regarding programme Stock 20:20. The complainant alleged that in the said programme the channel recommends stocks, which can be purchased. After watching the said programme and after cross checking the fundamentals on NSE, it was observed by the complainant that out of 40 stocks recommended, stocks of at least 38 would be very weak and the value of the stock recommended by them would fall 90-99%.On the basis of such information innocent investors suffer huge losses.

NBSA considered the complaint and the response given by the broadcaster and decided that no action needs to be taken in the matter. An investor should not depend on a television programme to invest in security markets and would be doing so at his own risk and responsibility. However, having said that, the NBSA opined that such information on stocks, equity etc. must be thoroughly verified by the channel before being aired so that investors do not lose money based on such recommendations given on television channels. MIB and the complainant were informed of the decision.

S.NO 592. Channel Aaj Tak Complainant Mr. R.L. Kain Date of Broadcast 21.11.2012 Complaint

The complainant had alleged that Aaj Tak channel in its telecast on 21.11.12, while covering the news story regarding the secret execution of Ajmal Kasab, a Pakistani terrorist, had used the caption “Buddha Smile” in its bottom and top bands throughout the day and later changed it as “Operation X”, which according to him has offended the sensibilities of the Buddhist people across the world and in particular in India.

NBSA considered the complaint and the response given by the broadcaster and decided to convey to the complainant that while it is sensitive to the concerns raised in the complaint and respects the sentiments of Buddhist community, it appears that the initial use of the objectionable caption was based on information received from government sources, which caption was subsequently modified by the government sources and thereupon by the broadcaster as well. In view of the action taken by the channel to correct the caption as soon as the government sources corrected it, NBSA was of the view that no further action needs to be taken against the broadcaster.

S.NO 593. Channel Times Now Complainant Mr. Sharad Shah Date of Broadcast 16.11.2012 Complaint

The complainant alleged that a serious debate on the subject of a woman’s right to abortion that concerned Medical Jurisprudence and Human Rights was given a communal twist by inviting Mr. Sheshadhari Chari, a representative of RSS and “Sangh Parivar”, who have a running battle with Christian Church for reasons not connected with subject of the debate. This was unnecessary and undesirable and violated various clauses of “ Specific Guidelines for Reportage” of NBSA.

NBSA considered the complaint; the response received from the broadcaster and also viewed the CD and decided that a viewing of the program did not bear out the allegations of denigrating or offending sensitivities of racial or religious groups or of creating religious intolerance or disharmony. Accordingly, no further action needs to be taken in the matter. The complaint was closed.

The complainant alleged that in the discussions and coverage on Mr. Robert Vadra’s land deals case the channel was sensationalizing the issue and there was no objectivity and neutrality in the programme.

S.NO 595. Channel NDTV 24x7 & Headlines Today Complainant Suo Motu Date of Broadcast 19.11.2012 to 21.11.2012 Complaint

NBSA noted that NDTV and Headlines Today had violated the Code of Ethics/Guidelines/Advisories issued by the NBSA as both the channels had not effectively morphed the face of the two girls who were arrested in Mumbai over face book comments.

NBSA viewed the CDs submitted by the broadcasters and noted that the footage submitted by both the broadcasters was not the same as alleged to have been viewed. In view of this ambiguity, the matter was closed.

S.NO 596. Channel NDTV, CNN IBN, Times Now, Headlines Today, Aaj Tak, Zee News, IBN 7, ABP News and India TV Complainant Mr. Vikas Mahajan, Mr. Rajiv Tuli and Mr. Barun K. Sinha Date of Broadcast Complaint

The complainants alleged that the channels misquoted Shri Mohan Bhagawat and published the news with an entirely opposite view and was in bad taste, false and distorted. They alleged that the distortion in the quote was an offence under Section 499 of IPC and the broadcasters have violated the NBSA Guidelines dated December 13, 2012, titled “Guidelines on Broadcast of Potentially Defamatory Content”.

The complainants were advised to first file their complaints with the individual broadcasters, which is the first level of grievance redressal and the complaints will be considered thereafter, if necessary.

S.NO 597. Channel NDTV Complainant Mr. Pawan Kumar Tiwari Date of Broadcast 31.12.2012 Complaint

The complaint was regarding news telecast on the channel wherein it was stated that “an engineering student raped his 19 year old Dalit classmate in Kurukshetra, and the Haryana Police arrested him". The complainant stated that the use of word ‘Dalit’ propagates & promotes hatred between Dalits & Non-Dalits.

S.NO 598. Channel NDTV Complainant Ms. Vasant Uchil Date of Broadcast 9.1.2013 Complaint

The complaint was that the broadcaster had stated that the father of the soldier heard the news of the death of his son from the news channel. The complainant stated that the name and photograph can only be revealed after the family is first informed of the death by army authorities.

The complaint was regarding a news report with reference to “Saffron Terror” on the channel while covering the news story on Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde’s speech at the Congress party enclave in Jaipur. The complainant alleged that channel was trying to dilute Mr. Shinde's phrase "Hindu Terror" by "Saffron Terror".

The complainant alleged that in the programme “Dragon Se Tension” on Aaj Tak channel it gave details of India’s defence establishment and compared it with that of China.The complainant’s view was that revealing such information is not good for our country.
